Valletta, Malta…one pic and few words to answer to these WHYs

Valletta, Malta…one pic and few words to answer to these WHYs

Summer has only just arrived in the northern hemisphere, but the hot weather brings with it dreams of holidays in paradise.

Thanks to its rich and varied history, approximately 350 sunny days per year, exceptional seafront and extremely welcoming people, Malta is a country that quickly wins over its visitors’ hearts. It is little surprise, therefore, that it has been listed by the Travel & Leisure magazine as one of the best places to travel to in 2015. But the country is not only top of the wish-list for tourists. In recent years Malta has become one of the most popular destinations for foreigners, ex-pats and professionals who want to establish themselves within a competitive legal framework in a country that provides not only a high quality of life but also advantageous tax and business benefits.

Valletta, the capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta packs half a millennium of history into less than half a square mile, with cathedrals, palaces, and baroque stair-step streets that end in spectacular harbor views. In early 2015 the star-shaped, 540,000-square-foot Fort Saint Elmo, closed to the public for years, is reopening its doors, allowing visitors to stroll ramparts that were crucial during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. Fans of cutting-edge architecture also have something to celebrate: a dramatic new entrance to the city and an open-air theater, designed by Pritzker-prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, are now complete, with plans for his new parliament building to debut later in 2015. Nightlife in Valletta thrives, with new bars and restaurants having revived the old, largely shuttered Strait Street in recent years. There, Tico Tico patrons spill into the street with their tapas and wine, while Palazzo Preca serves upscale traditional cuisine—Mediterranean with its own twist—in a 16th-century palazzo.

Air Malta has achieved 6th place in the ‘Best Regional Airlines in Europe’ category at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2015.
For the fifth consecutive year Air Malta has been rated as one of the top airlines in the regional airlines category of carriers that operate predominately short haul or regional international flights.
The awards are the global benchmark of airline excellence and the primary benchmarking tool for passenger satisfaction levels of airlines throughout the world.
The survey was conducted online between September 2014 and May 2015 with 18.9 million customer surveys completed, across a range of survey topics. The survey covered full-service and low-cost airlines and measured standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service. More than 105 different nationalities participated covering over 245 airlines from largest international airlines to smaller domestic carriers.
It was based on measuring customer satisfaction for the passenger experience across both airport and on-board environments – including check-in to boarding, on-board seat comfort, cabin cleanliness, food, beverages, in-flight entertainment, staff service and associated travel items. Data weighting is applied to provide nomination equity when evaluating airlines of different size.
“Air Malta is rolling out a number of initiatives aimed at putting customer at the heart of the organisation. The airline will be focusing more on enhancing customer experience and showing that the airline cares more,” the airline said.

The waterfront known as Malta’s millionaires’ playground has been captured in a series of stunning photographs that present the beauty of Vittoriosa, Senglea and Valletta’s Grand Harbour.

The impressive high-resolution shots were taken from the roof of one of Malta’s most iconic landmarks, Fort St Angelo.

The historic fort, once the headquarters of the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean, will host the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh during the Commonwealth summit in Malta in November.

It offers beautiful views of the Vittoriosa Marina, even stretching to the Gardjola at Senglea Point.

The images depict the high end feel of the area which underwent a major regeneration programme several years ago, with several luxury superyachts captured by the camera.

The photographs were commissioned by the Malta Tourism Authority.

In a statement, the Malta Tourism Authority said Malta was outperforming most of Europe as tourist arrivals continue to grow as a faster rate.

According to the the World Tourism Organisation, international tourism demand continued to be ‘robust’.

Prospects for the May-August period remained upbeat, with close to 500 million tourists expected to travel abroad during these four months.

The MTA said it shared this optimism as inbound tourism to Malta was expected to continue to grow in summer.

A spokesman for the Malta Tourism Authority said: ‘From the Maltese perspective, it is satisfying and encouraging to note that Malta’s tourism performance during the first four months of the year shows that inbound visitors to Malta increased by an impressive 5.6 per cent.

‘This implies that Malta’s performance continues, yet again, to exceed the growth rates for both the entire World and Europe: proof that Malta is sustaining its trend of outperforming overall growth rates at global, continental and regional levels’.
