Did you wonder why your flight last month was so packed? Ryanair ‘s July passenger traffic zoomed up 11%, to break the 10 million barrier.

The Irish no-frills airline claims to be the first ever to carry more than 10 million passengers in a month.

Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, said: “For example we carried more customers in one month (10.14 million in July) than Aer Lingus carried in a whole year (9.77 million in 2014).”

The company reported in April reported its full-year results in May, which revealed a 12% jump in revenue to €5.65 billion (£3.95 billion) and a 66% rise in profit after tax to €867 million (£605 million), helped along by a plan to improve its customer service.

Tourism chiefs say 2015 is set to be a record year for cruise liner traffic in Malta with more than 630,000 cruise passengers expected to visit Valletta.

Port of Valletta bags yet another award

For the fourth consecutive year Valletta Cruise Port has been named as the Best Turnaround Port Operator 2014 by Cruise Insight. This award recognises the impeccable service delivered by the port, and the continued development of its facilities in the last years.

“It is our pleasure to be receiving such an award. Valletta Cruise Port is constantly striving to excel in its service delivery and raise the bar year on year,” commented Valletta Cruise Port’s CEO Stephen Xuereb.

Valletta Cruise Port representatives along with other stakeholders were attending Cruise Shipping Miami 2015, the cruise industry’s most authoritative professional showcase. High passenger satisfaction ratings and recognition of Valletta’s value-based port services and facilities were highlighted by all levels of senior management within the cruise lines.

Stephen Xuereb of Valletta Cruise Port said the Grand Harbour has become one of the most important cruise ports in Europe.

He said: ‘The key drivers in this business are location, location and location. We are in the middle of the Mediterranean.

‘This aspect can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, but it mostly works to our advantage.

‘We also benefit from the fact that the cruise lines are berthing at the destination itself.

‘The unique natural beauty of the Grand Harbour, including our dedicated passenger terminal, is another plus considering that in other destinations ships are often berthed in commercial ports.

‘The Maltese economy at large is the greatest beneficiary of the unparalleled growth that the Valletta Cruise Port is experiencing.

‘In fact, in 2014 the cruise business contributed €82 million to the Maltese economy, of which €26 million were in the form of direct and indirect taxes’.

CHEAPER FLIGHTS TO MALTA ON THE WAY WITH RYANAIR

CHEAPER FLIGHTS TO MALTA ON THE WAY AS RYANAIR STARTS PRICE WAR

Low-cost airline Ryanair today promised to slash fares to and from Malta as it launched a new price war.

Maltaway viaggi and Ryanair are your way to Malta from Italy and Europe

The budget airline, which has a base at Malta International Airport, insists the cost of a ticket will fall later this year after announcing upbeat financial results.

It said lower oil prices and discounts by competitors should result in lower winter fares for customers.

Passenger numbers rose by 16 per cent, thanks in part to its new ‘customer-friendly’ tactics.

Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary promised the company would use the first half performance ‘to pass on very aggressive pricing so that we fill 15 per cent capacity growth in the second half instead of 10 per cent.

Ryanair has been flying high on the back of a new approach to make customers happier, including allocated seating and trying to change its reputation for sneaky fees.

The airline also hopes to introduce new menus, interiors and staff uniforms this year, and take delivery of 31 new aircraft.

Ryanair’s profit rose to €245million for the first three months of 2015, up from €197million a year earlier.

Mr O’Leary said : ‘Our mix of low fares, best on time performance and enhanced customer experience under our ‘Always Getting Better’ programme, continues to attract millions of new customers.

‘At the same time our focus on cost enables us to pass on lower fares to customers’.

Ryanair flies to Malta from more than a dozen destinations, including Edinburgh, Glasgow Prestwick, Bournemouth, Leeds Bradford, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin, Liverpool, Gothenburg Barcelona, Milan, Turin, Venice, Luton, Stockholm, Madrid and Pisa.

The number of holiday visitors to the island rose by 0.5 percent while the number of hotel nights increased by 1.5 percent.

The National Office of Statistics in Valletta said total arrivals during the first five months of 2015 amounted to 572,409 – an increase of 2.1 percent over the same period in 2014, which was already a record year for tourism.

Total nights spent went up by 1.6 percent, reaching nearly three million between January and May.

Malta Tourism Authority chief executive Paul Bugeja welcomed the figures as good news which ‘continues to consolidate Malta’s competitiveness as a tourism destination in the years to come’.

He added: ‘These results continue to confirm the trend emerging from the overall inbound tourism figures which indicate very clearly that the number of tourists choosing to stay in non-collective private accommodation is increasing at a much faster rate than in collective accommodation’.

Air Malta voted amongst top airlines at World Airline Awards

Air Malta voted amongst top airlines at World Airline Awards

Air Malta in sixth place for best regional airline in Europe

Visit Malta with Maltaway viaggi personal traveller

Air Malta has achieved 6th place in the ‘Best Regional Airlines in Europe’ category at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2015.
For the fifth consecutive year Air Malta has been rated as one of the top airlines in the regional airlines category of carriers that operate predominately short haul or regional international flights.
The awards are the global benchmark of airline excellence and the primary benchmarking tool for passenger satisfaction levels of airlines throughout the world.
The survey was conducted online between September 2014 and May 2015 with 18.9 million customer surveys completed, across a range of survey topics. The survey covered full-service and low-cost airlines and measured standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service. More than 105 different nationalities participated covering over 245 airlines from largest international airlines to smaller domestic carriers.
It was based on measuring customer satisfaction for the passenger experience across both airport and on-board environments – including check-in to boarding, on-board seat comfort, cabin cleanliness, food, beverages, in-flight entertainment, staff service and associated travel items. Data weighting is applied to provide nomination equity when evaluating airlines of different size.
“Air Malta is rolling out a number of initiatives aimed at putting customer at the heart of the organisation. The airline will be focusing more on enhancing customer experience and showing that the airline cares more,” the airline said.

The waterfront known as Malta’s millionaires’ playground has been captured in a series of stunning photographs that present the beauty of Vittoriosa, Senglea and Valletta’s Grand Harbour.

The impressive high-resolution shots were taken from the roof of one of Malta’s most iconic landmarks, Fort St Angelo.

The historic fort, once the headquarters of the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean, will host the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh during the Commonwealth summit in Malta in November.

It offers beautiful views of the Vittoriosa Marina, even stretching to the Gardjola at Senglea Point.

The images depict the high end feel of the area which underwent a major regeneration programme several years ago, with several luxury superyachts captured by the camera.

The photographs were commissioned by the Malta Tourism Authority.

TOURIST ARRIVALS UP 5.6% IN MALTA IN FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 2015

TOURIST ARRIVALS UP 5.6% IN MALTA IN FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 2015

The number of tourists visiting Malta in the first four months of the year has risen by 5.6 per cent, according to new figures.

Maltaway viaggi is your on line travel to Malta and everywhere in the world, for vacation or business your personal traveller with web prices

In a statement, the Malta Tourism Authority said Malta was outperforming most of Europe as tourist arrivals continue to grow as a faster rate.

According to the the World Tourism Organisation, international tourism demand continued to be ‘robust’.

Prospects for the May-August period remained upbeat, with close to 500 million tourists expected to travel abroad during these four months.

The MTA said it shared this optimism as inbound tourism to Malta was expected to continue to grow in summer.

A spokesman for the Malta Tourism Authority said: ‘From the Maltese perspective, it is satisfying and encouraging to note that Malta’s tourism performance during the first four months of the year shows that inbound visitors to Malta increased by an impressive 5.6 per cent.

‘This implies that Malta’s performance continues, yet again, to exceed the growth rates for both the entire World and Europe: proof that Malta is sustaining its trend of outperforming overall growth rates at global, continental and regional levels’.
